About David
Who is David Tansey?
I’ve been connected to Cheverly for most of my life — I lived here growing up, and now I’m proud to be raising my family in this same tight-knit, thoughtful community.
Professionally, I’ve served for 16 years as a public high school math teacher with DC Public Schools. Throughout my career, I have passionately advocated for my students before the DC Council and the State Board of Education. As a member of the teacher leadership teams at both of my schools, I’ve played a key role in shaping decisions on budgets, programming, and personnel. These experiences have given me valuable insight into policy-making, resource management, and organizational leadership.
In Cheverly, I’ve stayed involved: I’m the Committee Chair for our Cub Scout Pack, a basketball coach with the Cheverly Boys and Girls Club, and a former board member and ongoing volunteer with Cheverly Village.
Now, as your Ward 4 Councilmember, I’m focused on making Cheverly work better: transparently, responsively, and with real attention to detail. Whether that means making public spaces easier to use or ensuring residents actually understand how decisions get made, I’m here to do the unglamorous, essential work of local governance.
I won’t pretend to have all the answers. But I believe in doing the work, showing my reasoning, and making sure residents can see not just what we’re doing, but why.
A strong community doesn’t just happen. It’s built on small efforts, steady care, and shared purpose. That’s the work I’m committed to doing. And I hope you’ll be part of it.
